Travelling to the Arctic
This week our rocket has taken us to the Arctic. We have learnt about animals that live there. We have read a story about a polar bear and we wrote our own stories about a polar bear too. We all got very cold playing with some ice!
We listened to some ' Nasa Space Sounds' - https://www.youtube.com/watch?=Qr4BnW_GlfU Then we created our own piece of music, telling the story of a rocket's space adventure. We drew some pictures (see below) to show the things that we could meet on our space journey and this became our 'musical score!' We then created sounds using our voices to represent the different parts of the journey - video to follow! Why don't you ask your child to do a performance for you at home...
Thank you to 'Help a Hedgehog Hospital' (http://helpahedgehog.org/index.php) who came into school and taught us all about hedgehogs. We were very excited when they introduced us to one of their hedgehogs 'Ward.' Thank you to all the parents who sent in the donations of cat food, they were very gratefully received. After the visit, the Year 1s wrote some facts that they had learnt in their English books, some children chose to make Hedgehog pictures using forks to make 'spines' or leaves to make hedgehog beds and we even sang a song about hedgehogs. I've attached the words so that you can sing along at home!
We had a lovely time at The Community Orchard today. The children tasted lots of varieties of apples and we made our own juice, it was delicious!!!
We have been practising our ball skills in PE - look at some of the different things we can do with a ball...
Sitting and bouncing on the ball
Throwing the ball high and watching it bounce
Bouncing on the ground and catching
Throwing and catching, kicking and rolling
We made up some of our own games
Writing letters in shaving foam is such fun!
Playing with new Numicon mats.
Painting pictures linked to the story of The Little Red Hen
We have been writing letters.
Harvest - we read the story of the Little Red Hen. Then we made some bread of our own. Unlike the story, we shared the making and the eating!
We made the dough then made rolls.
The Year 1s made a Harvest Loaf.
Ready to be baked...
Scarecrows and bread roll eating!
We have been learning to use our new, fancy interactive whiteboard! Here we are practising our handwriting with the magic rainbow pen; If you take the pen off the board it changes the colour!
We have been enjoying our lovely new decking area. We were very excited to have a couple of visitors! The children decided to relocate our Grasshopper friends onto the grassy bank.
This week we have been reading Elmer stories. We made elephant biscuits.
We have had a wonderful time getting to know each other. We have been very busy making our room and the hallway look bright and welcoming.
We would like to welcome all our new families and we are delighted to see familiar faces. This term we will be getting to know each other and enjoying our lovely new classroom!
Our topic is 'Let's Begin'.
This week we are learning the alphabet. We are matching capital letters to lower case letters and making sure we can all write them correctly before the end of the year.
03.07.17 A great day outdoors!
We enjoyed the first of our 'Outdoor Learning' days.
This week we have been reading this book. We have been telling the time, doubling numbers, writing story plans, making puppets and retelling our own stories.
Learning to tell the time!
We did some drama to learn about the differences between ducks, geese and swans.
We went to the field to do some athletics and we all loved throwing the javelins.
We love our new cameras!
Mrs Bendle taught us a dance showing the lifecycle of a frog. We enjoyed pretending to be wobbly spawn waiting to hatch, tadpoles, froglets and frogs!
Today we had a very exciting visit from Slimbridge WWT. They bought a toad and a salamander for us to look at and learn about. Most of us enjoyed holding them. We can tell you all about the life cycle of a toad now too.
The children wanted the outdoor role play area to be a building site after they watched a digger destroy Hawks old classroom!
