    FILM DAY

Friday was a special day at Thrupp and a buzz of activity. We were filming a school video. Each class contributed something small, in Buzzards we did some outdoor drama and some outdoor Art. It was amazing to see the pupils so excited.

We can't wait to see the finished thing!

    JAPANESE KIT KAT TASTING

As part of our BE THE BEST Fridays last term, we learnt Japanese. To celebrate the effort the pupils put into this, I thought it would be lovely to try some Japanese treats.

The class tried a KIT KAT in Cherry Blossom flavour. The pupils seemed to like this and it was great to try this famous Japanese treat!

Pupils had interesting day finding out about Remembrance Day. First we found out why is happened. Next, we held our respectful silence. Finally, we did a variety of things linked to this:

    1. Made a 3-D model of a poppy

    2. Word Search

    3. Remembrance Poem

    FIRST WEEK BACK

Pupils had an amazing first week back. It was lovely to see the pupils in a great spirit after the holidays.

First pupils had a go at creating some Christmas card designs that will be sold by the PTA. The designs are fantastic and you can see them below!

This child was very proud of the home made spear that they made that links to our Stone Age topic. It is wonderful!

Finally, at the end of the week Buzzards class did Forest School. Pupils had the best time undertaking a range of different stimulating activities.

It was brilliant to see the pupils so engaged and happy.

    FUN RUN SUPERSTARS

Pupils in Buzzards class raced around the school field in a sponsored event to help raise money for the PTA.

    Altogether, we ran 332 laps.

We had one person run 18 laps, which is amazing.

    HOME LEARNING WONDER

This pupil went above and beyond in his home learning. It is very much appreciated!

    STONE AGE HISTORIANS

First, pupils looked at Skara Brae (a very famous Stone Age settlement). It is older than Stonehenge and the Egyptian pyramids.

Skara Brae is one of the best preserved Neolithic settlements anywhere in Western Europe – which makes it a super-special find for archeologists. The amazing artefacts discovered at this incredible site give us an insight into what life was like in Britain during that time.

After that , pupils researched Stone Ager tombs and had a go at designing their own.

    RELAXATION STRATEGIES

This week we are trailing a '2 minute meditation' session each day  to calm the pupils and to help them settle in themselves.

The pupils were extremely positive about the sessions and I am excited to continue the sessions.

    SOCIALLY DISTANCED DRAMA

As part of our Stone Age topic we are looking at the AMAZING book 'Stone Age Boy'! We are using it to help inspire the pupils and enrich their writing.

Pupils had a go at doing some socially distanced drama to investigate the meeting of the two main characters. They got into the idea very quickly and it was great watching what they had done.

    BE THE BEST FRIDAYS

Be the best Fridays are still happening!! In Buzzards, our theme is learning about Japanese Life and beginning to learn the Japanese language.

    We have been learning:

    Hello

    Goodbye

    Thank you

    Yes

    No

    Numbers 1-10

I have been impressed with the children as they are learning this alongside French as well. It has been great listening to a bit of Japanese as I speak to the pupils.

Here they are practising Yes No by answering English questions in Japanese. We also had to compliment our partners and the partners had to say 'Thank You' in Japanese after each compliment.

    25/9/20

    LIVE MUSIC

This Friday, we were hugely lucky to have an outdoor music concert.

Part of it was performed by musicians already learning violin.

Mrs Henderson then played some classics for us. A highlight was listening to the Harry Potter theme tune.

THE DAWN OF ART: 'CAVE ART'

On Monday pupils looked at what was Cave Art and looked at examples. They then had a go at recreating these cave images in their sketchbooks to mimic the style. The pupils did a really good job and I was hugely impressed. After that is completed, they will go on to produce their own artwork that will go on display.

    18/9/20

    STONE AGE HISTORIANS

We started our topic by thinking like real- life historians. We did this by looking at artefacts and thinking about what they were and what they were used for.

After that, we looked at creating our own timelines. This was very quite challenging due to the large numbers that are involved.
Next, we looked at Stone Age animals. First we watched a documentary that looked at the animals that existed during this time.

    PE

Pupils enjoyed their PE in the sunshine!

    BACK AT SCHOOL

Wow! It has been an absolute delight getting to know the new Buzzards class. There are lots of amazing personalities that stand out!

We first spent some time finding out about the Buzzard Birds and drawing our own birds in our fab new sketchbooks:

We then had a go at designing a new logo for our class room here are some designs:
A talented pupil came up with this fab drawing!
Finally, we spent some time up in the woodlands behind the school getting to know each other:
Unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions, we will not be holding an open morning this year for new families. However, viewings for Thrupp Primary School are now being taken. Please contact the school office to make an appointment for Reception 2021 or in-year application viewings.
