    ThruppPrimary School

    Spring

Wishing you all a happy and restful Easter break! We look forward to seeing you in the summer term 🐣 ☀️

04/04/22 - We have loved our English Civil War topic, and ended with a battle re-enactment ⚔️ 🛡

06/04/22 - Lots of fun was had as part of our maths measurement unit. For an experiment, Miss Greenwood gave each pair a Curly Wurly chocolate bar and asked us to measure it. We then had to see how far we could stretch it! Did you know that some materials behave differently according to their temperature? The Curly Wurly stretches better when it’s warm because its molecules are spread wider apart, increasing the material’s elasticity. When the chocolate and toffee are cold, their molecules are bonded together tightly, keeping it from stretching.

01/04/22 - Year 6 had a fabulous trip to Westonbirt Arboretum today to take part in an orienteering challenge; the weather was glorious and everyone had such fun in the sunshine amongst the ancient trees 🌳 🥾

28/03/22 - We had such a fun DT afternoon creating our English Civil War shields 🛡 We used a range of resources and incorporated our original designs onto our final pieces. Miss Greenwood was so impressed with the creativity and enjoyment we exhibited! Let the battle re-enactment next week commence

25/03/22 - We love reading! 📚 Such a super range of literature currently being read in our class 📕

21/03/22 - Last week we had lots of fun undertaking a ruler drop experiment in pairs. We worked scientifically and recorded our results in tables and then in a bar chart. So much fun was had by all!

16/03/22 - Today we learnt about rhythm in music and then created our own biscuit-themed round sound 🎶 🍪

    14/03/22 - Incredible Owl sketches and such amazing high-quality writing ✍️ ✨

08/03/22 - Miss Greenwood is so proud of the effort we have gone to making such incredible homemade musical instruments. We cannot wait to use them this term within our own bands 🎷🎸🎻

02/03/22 - We had such a wonderful time for World Book Day 2022 - an amazing range of characters and we were extremely lucky to have a workshop led by Tom Percival, where he taught us about character development and drawing techniques!

1st March 2022 - Welcome back to the new term. We have lots of exciting things to look forward to and I hope that you all have a fully-refreshed learning tank!

Here are a few organisational reminders:

    • PE will continue to be on a Monday (both year groups) and a Friday (Y6) for this term.
    • Homework will be sent out on a Thursday, and is due back the following Thursday by 9am.
    • We expect the children to come to school in full school uniform on non-PE days; including school shoes please rather than trainers!
    • You are always more than welcome to email me via owls@thrupp.gloucs.sch.uk if you have any questions or want to share something that your child has done at home! For anything urgent though, please email the admin account, as it isn't always possible to check the Owls account on a daily basis.
    • World Book Day for Thrupp School is Wednesday 2nd March.
    • The Y6 SATs information evening is going to be held on Wednesday 9th March in the school hall at 6pm.
    • For 'Be The Best Friday', Y5 children will be going to Forest School and the Y6 children will be led by Mr Bailey for PE.

16/02/21 - We had an amazing afternoon digging for ‘fossils’ in cookies 🍪 We used bamboo cocktail sticks and had to try and excavate whole chocolate chips from two different types of cookies, and then we compared them - it was much more challenging than we had anticipated, but also 100x more fun! 🕵️‍♂️

We have been so busy doing such amazing learning: RE board game design, tangrams in Maths (Y6), Online Safety work to name a few!

14/02/21 - Y6 have been working amazingly hard in their Maths lessons learning about angles and relating this to triangles!

01/02/22 - Our hard work across the curriculum is paying off and we are having a lot of fun along the way 🤩

KS2 🇫🇷 day - we had a French assembly, learnt about the geography of France and then made our own Eiffel Towers in DT 🥖

25/01/22 - We are loving our Civil War topic!

Y5 had an amazing and extremely educational trip to SkillZONE in Gloucester, where they learnt about health and safety in a range of practical workshops! 🔥 🚘 🚊

    24/01/22 - Just keep skipping! 🪢

19/01/22 - Working Scientifically to identify how right or left handed we actually are! (Strongly, moderately or weakly - or ambidextrous) ✋

19/01/22 - Whilst the Year 5's went to SkillZONE, the Year 6's went to Spy School! They undertook activities including writing with cotton buds and lemon juice (magic writing), made spy passports, created secret spy code wheels and undertook true or false spy questions! Watch out Secret Intelligence Service - I think we have some Y6's who will be candidates for MI6 Operations in the near future!

17/01/22 - This term, Owls have been learning about animation in Computing. For homework, the children had a choice of two activities, one of which was to create their own stop motion animation. Have a watch of the children's epic work - I am so proud of them all. You are technical wizards of the future! 📷💻
