Our Intent:
At Thrupp, we aim for our children to become resilient learners in Maths, who persevere and aspire to do well. We foster positive ‘can do’ attitudes and we believe all children can achieve in mathematics. We offer an equitable approach to mathematics whereby all of our pupils are given the support they need to be successful
We aim for our children to be creative and critical in their thinking. We want them to develop enquiring minds and be curious, asking and answering mathematical questions. We want children to ‘dive into’ a problem and explore many ways to solve it. We want our children to love numbers and the use of them.
We aim for children to relate mathematical ideas and concepts to everyday life. We want them to recognise that maths is essential in daily life, critical to science, technology and engineering and necessary for their future employment. We aim to enhance and develop mathematical skills throughout all areas of our curriculum.
We deliver creative and engaging maths lessons that build on a child’s prior learning. We provide first-hand practical learning experiences and opportunities for children to apply their mathematical knowledge to real-life problem-solving situations. We use mistakes and misconceptions as an essential part of learning and provide challenge through rich and sophisticated problems before acceleration through new content.
We aim for our children to leave Thrupp Primary School confident to use maths in their daily lives, to have a solid grounding for their next stage of their learning and for life beyond education. Mathematics is an important creative discipline that helps us to understand and change the World; we are enabling our children to do just that.
