    ThruppPrimary School

Summer Term 5 and Term 6

Our topic this term is 'Arabian Adventures'

In History, our key question is 'What was inside the House of Wisdom?' We will be learning about the early Islamic Civilisation, known as the Golden Age, and the advances which took place in Ancient Baghdad. We will be learning about the great inventors, scientists and academics of this period, and the influences that their work has on our life today. And of course, we will find out what was inside the House of Wisdom!

We began our topic by looking at some artefacts from a mysterious time traveller and using our skills as history detectives to work out where in History they had come from.....

We used primary historical sources to draw diagrams of the Round City of Baghdad, the capital of the Islamic Empire.

In DT we followed a biscuit recipe to make a basic biscuit. We then adapted the recipe within our groups and made more biscuits. Wow! They were amazing, all of our adapted recipes worked extremely well. Mr Bird, Mrs Jenkins and Mrs Mylechreest judged our tantalising delicacies - they were very impressed by all of the biscuits they tasted!

Some of our year 5 mathematicians took part in a special morning of maths at Stroud Valley school. We investigated prime numbers and found some really interesting patterns. We also investigated some challenging shape conundrums. Our maths brains were most definitely challenged!

Thrupp School Christmas Fayre is on Friday 29th November from 5pm - 7pm. Save the date!
