    Owls

    Desperate Journeys

On Friday 4th April, we were lucky enough to be invited to St Laurence’s church and take part in an immersive drama experience. The workshop aims at giving children a hands on experience of what some refugees experience when they are forced to leave their homes. The children had to work together and make difficult decisions to try and find a safe place after being displaced from the original setting. Our Owls were thoroughly engaged and gave some amazing insights as well as probing questions. A fantastic morning where I feel the children will have taken a lot from the experience.

    Tennis

Our other PE topic this term has been tennis. Mrs Mylechreest has been putting us through our paces, learning to have control when we strike the ball and being able to use spin in our shots. Wimbledon anyone?!

    Playgrounds

For our D/T project this term we looked at different playgrounds, their structures and their features. We then sketched out some ideas for our own playgrounds. Once we had finalised our plans we moved onto to creating our designs using a mixture of materials.

    Let’s Dance

Owls have been dropping some moves this term in PE. They have tried out lots of different styles and collaborated with each other to create some great group dances.

    Thursday 23rd January

To finish our topic on Italy in style Owls hit the kitchen and put together a 4 course, Italian themed meal. Having been split into 4 groups the class were then given a course each. They then researched Italian recipes to help them design their own. Once they had gone through this process they had to draw up their shopping lists for Mrs Westwood. On the actual cooking day the children were fantastic and created some delicious dishes!!

    Starter: Italian Broth with doughballs

Vegan Main: Vegan pasta with a tomato sauce, accompanied by garlic bread

Main: Beef meatball with spagetti in a tomato sauce, accompanied by garlic bread

Dessert: A triple layered Italian trifle

    Thursday 28th November

On Thursday 28th November we welcomed PC Hannah Coll in Thrupp. Hannah delivered a presentation to our Y5/6's about the importance of keeping safe on the internet. She went through the dangers of social media and how to spot things online that are not ok. She was brilliant on the day and answered all of our children's questions. A big Thrupp thankyou to Hannah.

    Monday 11th November

For our topic of WW1 and for Remembrance Day Owls took a trip to the Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum. We were lucky enough to have the whole museum to ourselves and took the opportunity to explore and take part in a poppy hunt around the site. They also got to handle lots of artifacts as well as try on uniforms. A big thankyou to our tour guide for the day.

    Tuesday 8th October

On Tuesday morning, we were lucky enough to welcome Ronnie into Owls to partake in a Black History workshop. Ronnie gave us a good understanding of what Black History actually means and then we created some 'Ankara' art along with some poetry. A big thank you to Ronnie.
